Mad Mary & Company was founded in May, 2003, by
Mary Wolfe Burns, a fifth generation Wallowa County
resident whose family still operates the Wolfe Ranch outside of Wallowa.

After running a gift shop, The Country Cottage, at Wallowa Lake for many years, Mary decided to open a new kind of store on Main Street in Joseph.  She designed the building, and filled one side with eclectic gifts and home accessories, and added a soda shop to the other side.  Inspired by the old-fashioned corner drug store Mary frequented as a child, she designed a 50's style diner with a long counter and red vinyl stools, perfect for swinging your feet and sharing a hand-dipped milkshake.  Mary's devoted husband Randy is king "Soda Jerk" and keeps the Soda Fountain running smoothly.
